Value Over Replacement (VOR) measures how much better a player is than a typical replacement-level player at their position — the kind of player any team could sign off the street or promote from their practice squad.
A VOR of +2.0 means two standard deviations above replacement — a franchise-level player. A VOR near 0 means replacement level. Negative means below that bar. Because replacement level is position-specific, VOR lets you compare a dominant CB to an elite QB on the same scale.
